Hello experts,
I have recently completed the initial configuration of a new Windows Server 2003 R2-based Terminal Server. It will allow external users remote access to an intranet portal in a geographically different site connected to the headquarter using an MPLS VPN link and to run a custom made business application that has been written using the client–server model. Sadly the above mentioned intranet portal only supports Microsoft Internet Explorer up to version 6.0 SP2, so I had to stay with Windows Server 2003 R2.
Just after starting the total lockdown process of the Terminal Server to limit users to the above mentioned applications and to restrict them from running other applications, browsing the network, etc. I have been asked that remote users must have both the ability to get/save files from the custom made client–server application to their client computers.and to attach files residing on their client computers to the client–server application.
I usually try to refrain myself from ever enabling over RDP drive mapping from out of control client computers belonging to external users except when absolutely needed.
Based on your experience, do you believe that enabling drive mapping over RDP is the best possible solution ? What alternatives would you suggest (for example, a Cloud-Based File Transfer solution) if any ?
Any guidance/help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and Regards,
Massimiliano
