Problem with remote sound on Server 2008R2

My customer is having trouble getting sound working on a remote desktop client connection to a Windows 2008R2 server. I have searched these forums and elsewhere on the internet and tried a number of solutions with no luck. I am hoping someone here can help me.

The client is running XP SP3 with all the latest updates. He can connect to the other server in the company, which is a 2011 Small Biz server, and remote sound works fine, so I know that his client settings are OK. On the 2008 server, I have installed the Desktop Experience role, enabled the 2 windows audio services, and enabled client audio in Remote Desktop Session Host configuration. I have checked the RDP server settings on the 2008 server against the ones on the 2011 SBS, and they appear to be identical. Remote audio appears to be enabled and volume is at 100% on both server and client, but no sound comes though at the client end.

To troubleshoot, I connected to this same server with my Vista laptop. I am not getting any sound on it either, so it would appear that the issue appears to be somewhere on the server end. I get sound on this laptop when connecting to the SBS 2011 server on the same network.

There is no sound card hardware on this server, but I understand from reading other posts, that this is not required for remote sound.

Any suggestions are appreciated. The customer needs sound to listen to his voice mail messages which are delivered to his outlook inbox on the terminal server.
