The story thus far... Convinced client to upgrade their aging system to Windows Server 2012 and clients to Windows 8. They purchased two (2) servers and installed Server 2012 Standard on each of them, with no problems.
Converted one to a DC and joined the second to the domain, no problem.
Setup AD and upgraded workstations to Windows 8 and connected them to the domain, no problems.
Installed RDS on the member server with all components installed on that server except for licensing that had not been installed or configured at this stage. All installed successfully. However when I attempt to logon to the member server it will only issue a temp profile no matter the account used, locally or remotely. Also the RDS server refuses to issue a remote desktop.
I have searched all articles and followed every possible solution I can find with no success. From manipulating the registry to GPO settings and etc., still no success. I crashed the whole system and started again from scratch and followed installation directions to the letter and still no success.
Thought it might be a DNS issue but both servers can ping each other and nslookup find each of the servers created a reverse lookup which strangely enough allowed me to logon provided I use the domain\username but next day refused to logon again. though it would allow logon temporarily it still issued temp profiles rather than local or roaming.
Currently the two (2) new servers sit behind a router that is configured a DHCP and has a static IP address that is directed to a temp server (Server 2003) which is configured as a TS server supporting staff while the new system is configured. The server 2003 was configured for TS within minutes and was functional, server 2012 has been nothing but a problem and we very much regret recommending it.
If anyone can help me I will be gratefully appreciated as I have exhausted my knowledge base and its now become a matter of urgency that we rectify these issues, next step pay Microsoft their fee for over the phone support...
One question that I have is when I install the RDS roles should anyone of them be installed on the DC?
