There seems to be a problem with selection of default printer for remote desktop users. The problem involves selecting (or de-selecting) the client's local printer as default. Changing the default printer appears to work for the current session, but does not persist through to next login.
This only happens with the remote client's local printer as the TS default printer. Changing the default printer between printers that are actually installed on the TS works fine.
We have two terminal servers, almost identical, in the same domain and with the same security and policies. The problem is a bit different on each, but both have a problem with persistence setting of default printer for Rd clients.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TS1 - A client can change the default printer to their local printer, but next login the printer has defaulted back to a different printer. This is very annoying for people in the department with that printer, because they get many printouts of documents that should not be there!
TS2 - A client can change the default printer FROM their local printer to any other, but it always defaults back TO their local printer at next login.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Terminal Servers are not able to update and save any change of printers to or from the client's local printer.
We have tried various group policy settings, security settings, different accounts (including domain administrator) etc., and nothing works.
The only difference between the two terminal servers is that one has print services installed and the other does not.
