I have some virtual 2008 R2 rds servers with locally installed statistical applications, and data that is either on local disk or san volumes using iscsi (private lan, jumbo frames). Mulitple users log in through rdp. I've found that some applications open quickly for administrators and slowly for non-admins, like SAS 9.3 and Office 2010. OS and apps are up to date. Proc mon shows a ton of access denied messages for non-admins, but the apps do run without visible error for them.
At first, I thought it was because I didn't use the rds install mode for some of these apps, but more research and testing seems to disprove that; the updated os and most apps are multi-user ready out of the box now, and I did a side by side comparison with no difference in results.
Is this possibly a UAC problem? I haven't tried that yet since MS warns against it when non-admins have access, and I don't want users to be able to install programs, just run them.
What else should I try? Thanks.
