Problem creating virtual desktop deployment: windows server 2012 datacentre (full)

Hello

I have a problem, I’ll start from the beginning

I had a test environment of Windows server STD 2012 Full, VDI Deployment, consisting of different servers carrying out the various roles

ICT VH04 (virtual host) Windows Server 2012 STD (full)

ICT-CB01 (connection broker) Windows Server 2012 STD (full)

ICT-GW01 (gateway) Windows Server 2012 STD (full)

ICT-WA01 (web access) Windows Server 2012 STD (full)

The above setup worked fine, I used a guide from http://blog.itvce.com/?p=1569 to implement the above (I was using a windows 7 sysprepped template),

Using the above method worked a treat I was also able to add an additional Remote Desktop Virtualization Host to the above set up (Windows server STD 2012) without any issues. Users could access desktop etc etc, I was able to evaluate the setup and proceed to buy some upgraded hardware.

Anyway the time has come to go live, I thought I’d make use of the original setup but remove the virtual host and add a clustered pair of beefed up Windows Server 2012 Datacentre servers. The new setup consist of:

ICT VH20 (virtual host) Windows Server 2012 Datacenter (full)

ICT VH21 (virtual host) Windows Server 2012 Datacenter (full

ICT-CB01 (connection broker) Windows Server 2012 Datacenter (full)

ICT-GW01 (gateway) Windows Server 2012 STD (full)

ICT-WA01 (web access) Windows Server 2012 STD (full)

I tried to add the servers just as I did the first time I added servers to the pool (all done by using the GUI on the Connection Broker server), the servers rebooted a few times and GUI looked like it had added them to the deployment so I tried to create a new Virtual Desktop Collection (having first created a new sysprepped image template on the cluster) I ran through the wizard but when I got to the specify template stage the template was not visible. So I tried sysprepping the iamge machine again…ran the wizard again…no joy. BTW The user account is full domain admin.

I have tried:

Starting the server manager as Administrator

just adding a single node to the deployment pool

just adding the cluster name to the deployment pool

running the deployment from the virtual hosts

made the connection brokers computer account a member of the RDS Management Servers on the virtual hosts

Confirmed the remote powershell can me run

Tried to install the remote desktop services/ Remote desktop Virtualization role on the virtual host manually without adding it to a deployment

I have tried installing via cmd: DISM  /online /enable-feature /Remote-Desktop-Services /all  (I have the log file if needed)

I upgraded the connection broker from std to datacentre (I’d like to rebuild this back to STD)

The above didn’t work so, I have rebuilt the connection broker to datacentre again with the same results

I have done some digging around (lots of posts about not installing RDS on on a DC…my servers are not DC’s) but when post sprung out ref a windows patch (MS update KB2821895)

http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/ff40dc6f-1d40-4a3c-8e48-eb8e961dcb70/server-2012-rtm-remote-desktop-connection-broker-role-wont-install

My clustered virtual host have the above patch (this patch cannot be uninstalled! Unless someone knows another way) In my original setup the virtual host didn’t have the patch.  I don’t not want to rebuild the virtual hosts unless I have to, as a lot of config has gone into setting these up.

When I have compared the old server virtual host server to the new ones and try to remove the Remote Desktop Services Roles from the new server the role isn’t installed, yet it will show up in the connection broker deployment GUI as being installed.

Can anyone help?

Cheers

Mike
