This is about long logon times on Terminal Server (the actual question is in the last line of this post). We have a call center using Windows 2003 R2 sp2 Terminal Server. Users have long logon times, sometimes over 15 minutes. We enabled Userenv logging for troubleshooting.
In the resultant logs everthing goes quickly until it reaches the function: "ReconcileFile". That takes up to 15 minutes to finish. It does not indicate that there are any errors, it just takes a long time. When that is done logon finishes in less than 2 seconds.
Users have roaming profiles stored on a file server on the network. Each time a persion logs on their profile has to be recopied because we have a GPO that deletes their profile on the previous TS logoff. It is clear that users have too much in their profiles but before I can challenge that, I need to ensure that the logon is as efficient as possible. Their My Documents is redirected to a network share so are not downloaded to the TS on logon. In the Users account some users have Terminal Server Profiles indicated, others have regular roaming profiles. The regular profiles are left over from an earlier time but are the result of TS logons. Both types have the same problem. The linkspeed between the file server and the TS is 666mbps.
I can't find much about the ReconcileFile process or if it is available to be modified to make logon more quick. I am looking for ideas on this.
