Cannot log onto Hyper-V Server local account after joining client PC to domain

I recently joined a Windows 7 machine to a virtualized 2012 Essentials domain running on Hyper-V Server 2012.

Now the Hyper-V server (which is not joined to the domain) no longer accepts login credentials from the Windows 7 machine via RDP or to server shares, using a Hyper-V Server local account (e.g., <ServerName>\<UserName>).

The error message I receive in the Windows Security login window is:

Your credentials did not work

The credentials that were used to connect to <SERVERNAME> did not work. Please enter new credentials.

The weird thing is that if I RDP into the 2012 Essentials VM I can then successfully authenticate an RDP session to the Hyper-V host, using a local account on the Hyper-V host. Connecting to shares on the Hyper-V host also works from the Essentials VM.

I would really like to get this issue resolved as the Windows 7 machine hosts my Windows 8 VM used for managing the Hyper-V server. The Windows 8 VM is now also unable to authenticate to the Hyper-V server, even though not joined to the domain.

Essentials doesn't appear to have the Hyper-V Manager snap-in, so I am unable to manage the host from Essentials.
