Remote App losing focus (Server 2008R2 SP1 and Windows 8)

I have been fighting this issue for quite a while now.  I have found multiple posts that address the issue, however none of the KB Hotfixes will work on my server.

I have tried installing each of the above mentioned Hotfixes on Server 2008R2 SP-1 and I keep getting the message that the "update is not applicable to your computer".

Basically, I have a remote client that is using Remote App (Not Remote Desktop), to launch a specific application.  The application has many different dialog boxes that pop-up during the course of using the software.  I get calls every day stating the "Computer has locked up again", further investigation proved that it was the Remote App loosing focus.

I thought Remote App was going to be the answer to my remote office connectivity. The client purchased 10 Remote Desktop Services licenses, and now, the workers cannot complete their work for having to Ctrl-Alt-Del and kill the remote session.

The layout is as follows:

Server - Microsoft Server 2008 R2 SP-1 (RDP License Broker and RDP Servise Manager, Application Host)
Workstations - Windows 8 Pro
5Mbps/5Mbps VPN tunnel between the two offices

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
