Windows Search changes in Server 2019 RDS

$

Hi,

So nothing like being on the cutting edge......

I have been testing Server 2019 RDS and so-far-so-good apart from an issue with the Windows Search Service.

It appears that in Server 2019 each user gets their own search database EDB file in their profile path (appdata\roaming). e.g.

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\S-1-5-21-3901271148-1553943383-1671037523-1629\S-1-5-21-3901271148-1553943383-1671037523-1629.edb

When they log on and log off; this is connected to the search service and the following event log is generated

Source:ESENT
EventID: 326
SearchIndexer (10896,D,50) S-1-5-21-3901271148-1553943383-1671037523-1629: The database engine attached a database (3, C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\S-1-5-21-3901271148-1553943383-1671037523-1629\S-1-5-21-3901271148-1553943383-1671037523-1629.edb). (Time=0 seconds)

Unfortunately it appears that this process is not very stable and on some logons the database in the users profile does not attach and the following error is generated

Source:Search
EventID: 3057
The plug-in manager <Search.TripoliIndexer> cannot be initialized.
Context: S-1-5-21-3901271148-1553943383-1671037523-1629 Application

Source:Search
EventID: 3028
The gatherer object cannot be initialized.
Context: S-1-5-21-3901271148-1553943383-1671037523-1629 Application, SystemIndex Catalog
Details: The specified object cannot be found. Specify the name of an existing object.  (HRESULT : 0x80040d06) (0x80040d06)

And a few more similar but related errors....

No subsequent logon/off will succeed in attaching the database until the Windows Search service is restarted

I am not testing with User Profile Disks or Roaming Profiles
There is no AV on the server

Any ideas?

Andy

Ghost typing the letter G

We have a 2016 standard server to which a few employees connect to for Terminal Services. Only one client using Windows 10 has suddenly developed an odd problem. The letter "g" keeps being printing. It doesn't happen on the computer itself, just in TS. I removed all peripherals thinking maybe there was some signal being transmitted from there, but still happens. Any ideas?

RDVH Delegation Rights Error

Hello all, need some help in determining why the ConnectionBroker can't see the delegated rights to the assigned OU for creating & deleting virtual desktops.

Environment:

  • Forest: Windows2008Forest
  • Domain: Windows2008Domain
  • Schema: Windows2012R2
  • DCs - Mix of 2012 and 2012R2 Servers
  • MSVDI- (CB, Lic, Web, SH, VH) = All 2019 Servers

Regardless of the method I try to use I'm stymied in creating a virtual desktop pool.

I've been able to successfully get RDSH working, but not the RDVH.

I've validated the permissions on the OU.  I've cleared out the permissions, setup new OUs to try, re-run the commands, used the script that they provide.  Permissions are there...but the UI and PowerShell commands simply don't acknowledge the permissions.  I've even tried (and reverted) given Everyone full access to the OU.

Errors:

In the 'Create Collection' UI Wizard I receive the following text when clicking Next in the 'Unattended Settings' section.

  • The RD Connection Broker server does not have access to add the virtual desktops to the Active Directory domain.  Configure access by using the Active Directory page of the Deployment Properties.

In the Deployment Properties, Active Directory section I receive the following text:

  • The specified Active Directory Domain Services organizational unit is not configured with the appropriate permissions to automatically create virtual desktops.  To configure the appropriate permissions, click Apply.

Clicking apply and/or using the 'Generate Script' button and running the script applies the permissions...but the UI does not acknowledge that it works.  Visually validated the permissions through AD.

Ran Test-RDOUAccess and received an error -2147463168, Failed to test access for the Connection Broker.

Ran Grand-RDOUAccess and received the same error -2147463168, says that my current user didn't have the rights.  I tried with a domain admin and enterprise admin account...still didn't work.

Hoping that someone can give me an idea on what to try next.

Thanks!

Problem with Strategy group to mount printers on Remote Desktop Host

Hello everybody,

We got a problem in our company about strategy group to mount printers for users in RDS 2012 R2.

We need to set printers for user. We use Security Group for this. The user belongs to a security group, and in the strategy group, we configure a printer for a security group (with common targeting).

So we add a user to a group like that he gets printers. The user log in to the RDS, and he sees the good printers.

The problem is, when we remove the user from the security group, printers stay in the session.

In the RDS, we use roaming profile, and I think the problem come from here. When we delete the profile on the file server, to get a new one, the user does not have anymore the printer.

I also tried to create a GPO to delete all shared printers in order 1, before to mount the printers. This is working the first time, but after this, when you add the user to a group, and remove him again, he also sees the printer.

It's a big problem, because a user which doesn't belong anymore to a security group, can use the printer.

Please, could you help me to solve this problem ?

Thanks by advance

WindowsServer 2016 RDS CertPropSvc error

One of our customers has the following problem:

If a user using a smart card logs on to the terminal server, the CertPropSvc has an error.
Then the "User Profile Service" restarts.
After that, all other users are only logged in with temporary profiles.

The problem first appeared after the following Windows Server 2016 updates were installed:

  • KB4091664 (2018-09 Update for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems)
  • KB4487038 (2019-02 Security Update for Adobe Flash Player for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems)
  • KB4485447 (2019-02 Servicing Stack Update for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems)
  • KB4487026 (2019-02 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems)

After we noticed the error, the following update was installed:

  • KB4487006 (2019-02 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems)

However, this did not improve the situation.

At first only one of the servers was affected by the error as it was the only one that got the updates installed.

But the other ones got the same problem after installing the updates.

We currently needed to disable smartcard redirection for the affected rds farm and would

Is it possible to change default rdp file for a specific published app on Remote Desktop Server 2016

$

Hey everyone,

I have a Remote Desktop 2016 Farm running published apps

The Windows 10 Clients inherit the dpi settings from the local computer to the published app that they execute, but that function does not work with Windows 7.

I know it is possible to change the default dpi and resolution settings from “rdweb\pages\Application Settings” for all published applications.

Does anyone know if it is possible to change screen or dpi resolution for a single published app?

Best regards
Carsten

Certificate issue: the remote computer cannot be authenticated due to problems with its security certificate. " Error code - 0x80072f8f, 0x20

Hello Team,

I have the below issue:

Here is my RDS environment:

I have only one server 2012 R2 standard with the below roles installed

  • RD connection broker,
  • RDSH,
  • RD Licensing and
  • RD web access

I have published few remote apps and I was able to access them using RD web feed till yesterday.

Example :https://contoso.com/RDWeb/Feed/webfeed.aspx

I do have installed the SSL certificate on my server and provided the same to RD web.

But today while I use the same url to access the remote apps I get the below error message

"The remote computer cannot be authenticated due to problems with its security certificate. security certificate problems might indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the remote computer"

Error code - 0x80072f8f,0x20

Now I can only access the remote apps through RD web access ( https://FQDN/RDWeb)

Please help me in fixing this issue.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

SM

Terminal services login issue

Once the server has started, you can log in to it. However, after some time, the server will stop accepting log ins from both the console and RDP and will just sit on "configuring remote session". I have had this on many Server 2016 servers with remote desktop services installed. If you leave RDP to sit on this message it eventually errors with an 'internal error occurred' message.

Can Server 2019 RDS use a 2016 RDS CAL

$

I have a Windows 2016 RDS license server with "Windows Server 2016 - Installed RDS Per User CAL" licenses installed on it.  I want to use this for Windows 2019 RDS connections.  Will 2019 use these CALs?  If not, what do I do?

1) Do I have to build a new server 2019 RDS license server and migrate my licenses?  Assuming the migrated licenses are backwards compatible with 2008R2, 2012R2, and 2016.

or

2) Can I use my existing 2016 RDS license server and "upgrade my existing" licenses?  Assuming the upgraded licenses are backwards compatible with 2008R2, 2012R2, and 2016.

or

3) Can I use my existing 2016 RDS license server and add NEW CALS that are specific for 2019.  Will that violate my license agreement because I now have double the licenses I own (x amount of the original and x amount added for 2019).

Thanks

Hi,

our workstations with Windows 10 pro are in this weekend updated to version 1803. For main system we use RemoteAPP aplications on Windows server 2012R2 (Windows server 2012R2 is full updated). After update on client station are RemoteAPP slower, and  right mouse button is unresponsive, or react verly long time...

It is a big problem for us.

PS: after replace mstsc.exe and mstscax.dll from older version Windows 10 is all OK. but this is not a solution.

Thanks.

Remove RD Connection Broker

I have a new RDS deployment.

We have made the Broker HA.

Attempting to add the second Connection Broker, the role was installed but it reported that it failed, not much else of any use just failure.

As it turns out the Broker role was installed, but not as part of the HA configuration, and it now shows as part of RDS as a connection broker.

Attempting to remove the roles from the RDS deployment (Server Manager) fails responding that it is not part of the deployment.

Question is now how can I force the remove of the server from the deployment scenario sand start again?

I found this, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2925854/cannot-remove-an-rd-host-from-an-rds-deploymentwhich is of no help as MS want you to call them and I can't exactly do that..

so to sum up: I have an RDS deployment with two brokers, one is in HA mode talking to SQL, adding the second failed but still installed the role but not in HA mode. RDS will not allow me to remove the failed (2nd) server.

Difference between deployed rd license server and rd license server in deployment properties?

$

In a very simple windows 2012 r2 RDS server there are two setting which seem almost the same. If someone could explain the difference that would be helpful.

Both are accessible from the RDS Overview panel.

#1 is found in the Deployment Overview panel where there is a RD Licensing icon. If one adds a RD License Server via that icon, the server will appear in the adjacent Deployment Servers list.

#2 is exposed via Tasks list when you choose Edit Deployment Properties. The four deployment properties that are exposed there include an entry for RD Licensing, which allows you to again specify the FQDN for a RD License Server and to choose between licensing per device or per user.

Having to restart RDS Service each morning

Hey,

We are running Server2012 Standard, with all patches installed.

Each morning I need to restart the RDS Service as users get a 'Cannot connect to the remote computer as an error occured' message

There's nothing in any event logs, and once i restart the service it it's fine for the whole day... Until the next day, when it happens all over again

Has anyone dealt with this before?

Thanks For your help!

CredSSP Encryption Orcacle Remediation Error

$

Hello,

A couple of my users want to use RDP to do their work, but recently they have been getting this error.

This is simply trying to get onto a workstation. So in my use case the user is just trying to RDP onto a Windows 10 Enterprise Edition (they are trying to log onto their computer from home), not a Windows Server or anything like that.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4295591/credssp-encryption-oracle-remediation-error-when-to-rdp-to-azure-vm

In my research I've found that I can get around this by going into the the group policy editor and going toComputer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Credentials Delegation, and then trying to change the Encryption Oracle Remediation policyto Enabled and then change the Protection level to Vulnerable.

But when I go into the group policy editor the Encryption Oracle Remediation policyis not there.

So I am not sure what I can do to fix this, all I want is the ability to remote into a Windows 10 machine, I have tried from multiple computers that reside on my network (and on a VPN as well) can RDP into other computers, except for my user's one workstation. Is there something I can reinstall on my user's workstation or repair to let computers RDP connect to it?

-Thanks
