Windows 10 1903 RDP With OpenGL 3.0 Application

$

I need to use Windows 10 RDP from my primary computer running Windows 10 Pro version 1903 to control my headless media server also running Windows 10 Pro version 1903. This was working fine until I upgraded the media server from 1809 to 1903. At that point the ROON application (full Control, Core, and Output PC x64) would no longer start, complaining that it needed OpenGL 3.0. Sure enough, the Remote Display Adapter used on the 1903 RDP client says it only supports OpenGL 1.1.

So, why did this only start happening on version 1903, and what can I do about it other than stop using RDP and install TeamViewer or one of the other alternatives?

RemoteFX looks like it could be a solution, and MS seems to think it is a solution, but I cannot find any documentation of how to set up RemoteFX on Windows 10 to use for a RDP session with a different computer, rather than with a virtual machine on the same computer.

If anyone can provide help, I'd certainly appreciate it.

Problem with Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS farm

Good afternoon.

There is a terminal farm with 3 session hosts, 1 connection broker and 1 session host for browsers and various SOFTWARE (this session host lives in a separate collection).

Recently the host for browsers began to fall off periodically from a farm is session, on a host there are errors of the following type:

"Remote desktop connection broker on server one is TSGW02.local.local returned an error when notifying to disconnect the session.
Session ID: 153
Error: the RPC Server is unavailable. "

"Remote desktop services was unable to join the connection broker on server one-TSGW02.local.local.
Error: the Current asynchronous message was dropped by the asynchronous dispatcher because there is a new message that will override the current one."

"A TCP/IP error occurred while trying to establish an outgoing connection because the selected local endpoint was recently used to connect to the same remote endpoint.
This error typically occurs when an outgoing connection is opened and closed at a high frequency, causing all available local ports to be used, and TCP/IP must re-use the local port for the outgoing connection.
To reduce the risk of data corruption, TCP/IP requires that there be a minimum amount of time between serial connections from a specific starting point to a specific endpoint."

"An error occurred while processing group policy. Windows was unable to apply WMI filter on group policy object 'cn={981F11B1-2073-4F7A-8D1E-760047BAF4D8},cn=policies,cn=system,DC=local,DC=local'.
Possible causes include disabling RSOP, disabling or stopping the WMI (Windows management Instrumentation) service, and other WMI errors.
Verify that the WMI service is started and that the service is set to start automatically. New settings or GPOs cannot be processed until this situation is corrected."

"The host server for the session connect to remote desktop cannot communicate with the license server for the rd one-tsgw02.local.local.
Verify that the remote desktop licensing service is running on the license server, that the license server accepts network requests, and that the license server is registered in WINS and DNS."

Nothing was installed or changed on the session host (since its normal operation).
Antivirus installed Kaspersky, base current, finds nothing. Physical servers also have no complaints (Hyper-V cluster, tried different nodes, including datastores).
At the time when the problem occurs (in the diagnosis) turned off the antivirus, as well as the built-in firewall - to no avail.

The most interesting thing is that if you make a wmi request from the connection broker , for example get-wmiobject Win32_OperatingSystem, then the problematic host responds and gives information.
If you try to make the same request from the problematic host anywhere (to the same broker), then you receive an error that WMI is not running on the remote host, or problems in the firewall.

What could be the problem?

How can you prevent firewall rule build up due to emulating Windows 10 on RD session hosts

$

We run 10's of Remote Desktop Session Hosts (RDSH) providing a Windows 10 experience on Server 2016 for over a 1,000 users. Over time the consumer extras such as Cortana end up adding firewall rules for each user that logs on to the RDSH. Over time the number of firewall rules builds up to silly levels and significantly slows down some operations on the server such as login.

To prevent this build up we have resorted to implementing a machine login script via GPO. The login script held on the DCs includes some powershell to tidy up the firewall rules. As the RDSH's are powered off each night they are kept nicely tidy.

Are there any better options? Are there any plans to rectify this and so remove the need for the script?

Issue with adding RD Session Hosts to Collection

We have been having issues for a while when adding session hosts to a collection.  Our collection averages 60 hosts and points to a folder on a profile server. for UPD  We have approximately 1,000 uvhds in this folder.  When adding a new server to the collection we are seeing an average of 3 minutes per server.  We add/remove servers quite frequently as we make changes often. We have ran the powershell script to remove orphan SIDs from the UPD folder but this did not speed up the process.  We have been beating our heads against the wall for months trying to figure out what could possible be causing such a delay.  It is an all night process right now when we need to spin up and add new hosts. When the collection is not pointing to a UPD path, servers add in seconds.   Any tips/tricks things we can check to speed this up?  Thank you!

But my question is, can anybody explain me reason behind the issue??

Getting 4 minute freezes on Remote Desktop Session Host VMs in Azure

$

In the early morning and occasionally during the working day we are experiencing lots of 4 minute freezes in our Remote Desktop Session Hosts (Windows Server 2016) running in Azure. The servers are quite big as they are serving Windows 10 like general desktop sessions to 30+ users.

Only some of RDSH VMs are affected on each occasion. Different hosts on different occasions. One host may be hit twice in a single period. A period of freezes may be spread out up to an hour. There are more VMs affected in the early morning after they all power on than during the day.

I have a background script running on the VMs watching for Audio service hang ups and its logging indicates the 4 minute freezes involve the CPU pausing. Essentially if the CPU wasn't pausing the script would be logging a message after just 1 minute. My guess is the Azure Hyper-V hosts are automatically rebalancing on changes in load and to do so are migrating VMs between hosts. As our VMs use a lot of memory I believe the 4 minutes is mostly the time taken to copy the RAM contents to the other Hyper-V host.

Is this a reasonable conclusion? Are there other possible causes?

Has anyone managed to prevent their VMs from being moved?

RemoteApp user assignment not working in collection, all users have access to run all applications even though they don't have access...

Hello all,

I'm having in issue with RDS hosted on 2012 server. Let's say I have 2 applications hosted my RDS session host server, and only 2 users (users a and user b).

user a has access to both applications, while user b has only access to 1 application.

RDS access is given through the user group in the properties section, and permissions are set at the application level "User Assignment" to reflect the above statements.

Both user A and user B still have access two the applications and they both show up under the RDWeb application as well.

I am at a lost of what's going on here. If someone could please help, that would be awesome!

2012 R2 RemoteApp User Assignment

$

0

I have a small test lab. One DC, one RDSH server, and one RDCB/RDWA server.

There seems to be an issue with the user assignment properties of remoteapps. Scenario:

I publish a collection and set the group to "domain users."  I publish two remoteapps to the collection. I then edit the properties of App1, expand the "user assignment" pane. I select the radio button to make the remoteapp only available to certain users. I add "user1."  I repeat the same for app2, but add only "user2."  User1 and User2 are both members of "domain users."

The test under user assignment seems to state that RDWA will only display icons for the apps the user has been assigned. However this is not the actual behavior. If User1 logs into RDWA, both apps are present (app2 should not be.)  Similarly, user2 sees both apps (app1 should not be present.)  Both users can launch both apps as well.

So I see one of three possibilities:

1) There is a bug.

2) This particular feature has been deprecated and the intended way to segment apps is now by collection, or

3) I am missing something insanely simple and will feel quite silly when someone points it out to me.

Fire away...

RDS Print Redirection Does Not Work After Reconnecting to RDS)

Hi,

AWS Windows Server 2016 Datacenter, a production Server for my client is impaired. The client has computers and printers at their office location, users RDS into AWS Cloud Server and print using RDS print redirection.

Since a few days ago the RDS print redirection stopped working reliably. No error message after hitting "Print a Test page", the print job shows up in the queue and disappears after a couple of seconds.

Print redirection often works and some other times doesn't work for everyone in that location. The only time I know for a fact it works is after rebooting the server. It takes either one or few times of disconnect/reconnect from RDS that the RDS print redirection stops working.

I did everything I can on a local machine and network. They all work fine 100% of the time. I restarted Win Server 2016 Spooler and it still doesn't work. One other condition the RDS printing worked is when I reinstalled the printer driver on local machine newly but it stops working after one or few RDS disconnects and reconnects.

It is so frustrating, I bought a brand new hp laserjet pro-MFP m447fdw printer it didn't help. I bought a new Cisco SMB router, it didn't help. Apparently, it only has something to do with Windows Server 2016.

trouble connecting devices to win server 2016.

Hi,

I have a terminal gun , something like this:

Résultat de recherche d'images pour

This device was connected to win sbs 2011 using rdp over wi fi, LNA not checked, for years.

I replaced the sbs 2011 server by a win server 2016 (other domain), and created a user with the same rights (remote desktop user, admin of the server), LNA not checked. I changed credentials on the gun. The gun can still connect to the old server, not to the new one. A laptop can connect to both servers in RDP using wifi and gun credentials.

A sporadic error message appears in event viewer on the server, in RemoteDesktopServices-RdpCoreTS:

'Failed CreateVirtualChannel call on this Connections Stack' in CUMRDPConnection::CreateVirtualChannel at 2349 err=[0xd0000001]"

(Error, event 227, module remoteFx). Can someone  explainme what it is and how to fix that?

Hi all,

After the Collection Security settings on Windows Servers 2016 RDS, has been configured to -

Security Layer: RDP Security Layer,

Encryption Level: Client Compatible,

no check on "allow connections only from computer running..."

that changed was made in order to enable users to change their password when expired.

now users have to enter their password twice in order to login,

the GPO is configured with 'Always prompt for password upon connection‘ to disabled.

any ideas ?

thanks a lot!

Multiple terminal server session

$

We have deployed windows 2019 terminal servers and found that user were return to parent windows of defferent session when closing child window. For example,

Session 1: User logged in to the server using published application. Opens child window from the same session.

Session 2:  Same User logged in to published application (which gives the same session on the server), launch the windows. Opens child windows.

Issue: when user closes child windows from session 2, it takes him to parent windows of session 1.

We never had this issue for windows 2008 terminal server session.

So is there any settings in the window server 2019 that should activate parent windows of the same session.

Thanks

RemoteFX on Hyper-V Console but not through RDP

$

Hi,

have a hard time right now. My setup is a Windows Server 2016 on a HP DL380p Gen8 Server with a Nvidia Quadro K4000 GPU. My goal was to create a VDI with user based Windows 10 Enterprise desktops my users can connect to with RemoteFX enabled.

Unfortunately I cant get it to work. As soon as I enable the RemoteFX GPU within the Hyper-V settings of any of the VM's I cant connect via RDP from another Windows 10 with MSTSC anymore.

- I get the user/password promt and enter both. (I now the authentication works because if I enter wrong credentials I get an password error)

- I see the "Remote Connection is being secured..." message and a second later the error message: "Your Remote Session has ended, possibly for one of these reasons:. The Administrator ended, the session Network Error...

BUT:

If I RDP into the Hyper-V Server (RDVSH) and open the Hyper-V Manager I can click on the same machines console and login - with RemoteFX enabled (as I can see within device manager "Microsoft RemoteFX Graphics Adapter WDDM...")

If I remove the GPU using Hyper-V Manager I can connect from the Windows 10 client with MSTSC to my VM Windows 10 just fine.

Other things I checked:

- Using Windows Server 2019 (same effect)

- clean non-domain windows 10 machine (same effect)

- MSTSC with the 10 MBit LAN option and not automatic detection (same effect)

Windows 10 tries to use PIN to access terminal server over RDS services.

All of our users have Office365 premium or essentials.  Our user workstations are all joined to our Azure AD.  We use Azure AD sync to sync our on premises Active Directory users to azure AD.  When a user logs in for the first time they are forced to create a PIN.  When that user subsequently tries to connect to our terminal server over Remote Desktop Services hosted on premises they are presented with a prompt to enter their PIN.  The PIN doesn't allow them to authenticate with RDS.  Is there a way to either A.) Make the PIN work to authenticate against on prem AD over RDS or B.)Stop the workstations from defaulting to PIN when authenticating against RDS?

Could not add RD Connection Broker to the cluster

I'm trying to configure connection broker HA in my 2016 RDS environment.  When I try to get the first CB added I get the following:  Could not add the RD Connection Broker server <servername> to the cluster and migrate the existing Windows Internal Database to the SQL Server database.

Any words of wisdom?
