Server 2008 R2 Terminal Server c0000005 and c0000006 errors with KERNELBASE.dll error in RDP sessions.

We installed a new Server 2008 R2 server this spring. It is configured as a Terminal Server with 16 Wyse t10 thin clients connecting with RDP. We are a small resort so we run Springer Miller Host and SpaSoft. Ever since moving from PCs to the thin clients and TS we have been seeing SpaSoft randomly crash with KERNELBASE.dll errors and also a lot of c0000005 and c0000006 errors. Springer Miller support says its a Microsoft Networking issue so no help there. The company we worked with to install this has no clue so I hope to reach out to this community to solve this. I can also open support case with Microsoft Support but I am not sure if they will be of any help. Here are some examples of the errors:

"Event 1000

There are no network specific errors in any of the logs. I am thinking that SpaSoft needs to be run as an administrator but I am not sure how to do that in this environment. We have disabled DEP for all but essential Windows processes. All of the firewall and AV has been completely disabled, and still getting these errors. Is there a way to run these applications as admin without the user actually being an admin? Should I go ahead and open a Microsoft support case? Thanks

Hi,I have a problem that I've seen posted in the forums but can not find a solution.  I am using windows 2008 r2 Terminal servers to log user on to the environment.  My users can't create/Copy/save files/shortcuts to the desktop.  My Terminal server profile path is filled out correctly and each user has full access to respective profile folder.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you.

Strange behavior of KB2923545 update. RemoteApp takes focus.

We have terminal farm on Windows Server 2012 (RDS 2012), and several RemoteAppapplications.

Once installed on the client computers with the Windows 7 updateKB2923545 get the following problem.

RemoteApp running application takes away the focus from a certain application periodicity.

This happens as follows:RemoteApp application is open, but not in focus.User are working in any application, such as in Microsoft Word.User is typing text without looking at the monitor. While typing the focus from the currently active application (Microsoft Word) goes to RemoteApp application and the user enters text into nowhere, causing very angry. That is RemoteApp application does not go to the front, it still sits in the background or minimized. But the focus (cursor) it catches itself. On the taskbar, it shows the application icon highlighted RemoteApp.

Prompt, who faced with a similar, what to do?
Is there a solution?
Critical Update or whether it can be safely declined?
Does MS know about this behavior of this update?

Terminal Services drainstop logon issue strangeness

Hi all, hope someone can shed some light on this.

Recently carried out some maintenance on terminal server farm i set up.

Its 2 servers with connection routed in via NLB and the two servers are part of a
load balanced session directory setup as per standard guidelines, nothing
exotic just a vanilla setup.

Put one server in drainmode so i could install updates and reboot and the other server
was set as normal to process incoming logons and maintain the service.

However, got a call from local support to say users couldn’t login, they got a
Logons currently disabled message, which i thought you wouldn’t as one server
was still available in the farm to process logons?? They then have to keep
retrying and eventually it allows a login, it’s like the algorithm has then
decided to point them to the available server after a number of attempts to
connect to the server that has been drainstopped.

Anyone any ideas as to why this is happening?

Hi guys,

I'm a bit strugeling with deploying a legacy application from a network location. The app is usualy started from a location called I:\App1\xy.exe /Parameters. This is working from a Citrix environment.

Now I need to deploy this app from a new RDS Server 2012 R2 Session Deployment. What's the best way to do this?
The drive is mapped in the same way as on the old Citrix.

Thanks for any help.

Hi,
I've recently installed Remote Desktop Services 2012 R2 and i'm having some trouble with the Start Screen Layout GPO. The application icons that i've included are being regenerated on the users start screens but not the folder shortcuts, even though they are included in the .XML layout file. Does anybody know if there is a way to get them to show up to? Here is the contents of the .XML file.

Strange problem with RDP and mouse, only solved after minimize/maximize

$

Good day,

We have this very annoying problem with a RDP Terminal Server. It is Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.

This server has the Session Host role installed, with local RDP user licenses.

We only have this issue when running a certain application.

This application is called Rockwell FactoryTalk View and this in an application to display industrial processes.

It will take the Full Screen in a fixed resolution and will display buttons, objects, values... The application also uses Internet Explorer cache so I think it uses ActiveX, Flash or Java, I don't know.

What sometimes happens is this:

- The mouse point is able to move in the entire screen (good)

- The mouse button will only work in 1 certain area of the screen (which is a small rectangle)

- The mouse "hovering" above objects will also only highlight items that are in this rectangle

- The keyboard remains functional and with alt-tab other objects or other applications can get focus, but still no mouse clicking

The problem can be solved by:

- Minimizing the RDP window and maximizing it again

- Or: Sending a message to the session using task manager, after clicking "OK" on that message the problem is gone

Normally, about 5 users will have this application opened in their session, the "crash" is only effecting 1 session.

The problem seems to happen randomly and we don't know if we should point to the FactoryTalk application, or to Terminal Services/RDP. The end users have no rights to minimize/maximize, this is not the solution.

Is it possible to have any input on this please?

Thank you.

Best aproach to disconnect/kill user session from asp.net

Hi,

dont know if this is the correct forum for this question.

I want to know what is the best aproach to kill/disconnect and get current sessions from a RDS server and show/manage on a asp.net site.

Is there an API for this, or is better for me to use command line, powershell or even direct connection to RDS Broker  SQL Database, i already found a table witch list the sessions.

Thanks for the attention.
Sincerely,
AM

Remote Desktop licensing mode is not configured - Will stop working in 8 days.

Hi team, I'm running into problems with licensing. I get an error upon login:

Remote Desktop licensing mode is not configured
Remote Desktop Services will stop working in 8 days. On the RD Connection Broker server, use Server Manager to specify the Remote Desktop licensing mode and the license server.

What I need:

  • I just want 5-10 users to be able to Remote Desktop into my 2012 R2 server via the Remote Desktop tool.

I think I must have added the wrong roles or licenses.

Please let me know what I can do to get this running. Thank you!

Deny access to some RDP users when connection is established over internet

Hello everyone,

On my Win2008R2 Server I have multiple users that logon using RDP. All users logon from terminals located within the intranet (10.1.1.x IPs), however there are few users that also conect from external sites, over internet.

My question is, how to I block some users from establishing RDP connections from remote clients (outside the intranet) while maintaining intranet remote access to all users? I cannot just remote a user from the RDP user group because it looses all RDP access.

Windows 8.1 Pooled VDI (2012 R2) slow initial login

$

Hi,

I have a strange problem with 8.1 U1 and 2012 R2 pooled collection. The collection is created correctly, and I can login fine, however - the login takes approx 15 seconds each time. I think there is some initialising of some sort going on in the VM each time. If I use a normal win8 vm on the same host I get a 4 sec login time. Both machines have the same group policies, and I have tried using user profile disks or just local profiles.

It is as though the first login on a fresh/sysprepped 8.1 VM does some funky stuff that slows it all down a bit. Anyone seen anything similar?

I've changed the login script timeout on both vms so it isnt that. Any logs I can look at? Event logs and userenv.log show no clues.

Unable to delete files within a User Profile Disk

$

Hi All,

We have the following problem, we are running a Windows Server 2012 (non R2) Session Host server using User Profile Disks. A user creates a new folder within their "Documents" folder, this new folder contains different file types eg, PDF, ZIP, DOC.

When the user tries to delete a file of the entire folder they are prompted by UAC. The user is not able to delete without an Administrator account confirming the UAC prompt.

We have checked the users security rights, the user has full access to the new folder and all files within.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

RDP License Server (Device Based CALs) is not issuing licenses to Devices.

$

Hello,

My RDP license server is not issuing licenses at all. Here are my environment details:

This is workgroup environment
RDP license is Device based CALs and is installed on Windows 2012
RD Session host server is Windows 2008R2.
Full communication is allowed both ways between license server and RD session host server.
Windows firewall is turned off on both license server as well as on RD session host server.
The Local Administrator’s password on license server as well as on RD session host server is same.

Now, on RD session host, when I run tlsbln.exe manually, it pops up the usual xxx days left balloon warning.
However when I run the License diagnostic utility under RD session host Snap-in, the utility connects to the license server fine and shows me the stats. However, in these stats, it show installed licenses are 20 and available license also as 20.
On the License server, under License server snap-in, My license server also shows that installed licenses are 20 and available are also 20.

This is not right. The installed should show 20 but the available license should show 19 as my desktop should have consumed one license.
I had 2 more laptops connecting fine to the RD session host sever and still the available licenses number was still 20.

Besides, on license server under the license manager snap-in, it did not mention any device names connected. Meaning, it is not aware of it at all.

Could you please help me understand what am I missing here. Why my license server is not issuing licenses?

Thanks.

RDGateway server is temporarily unavailable

I have working environment SBS 2011 that acts as a gateway and win 2008 that acts as a web access and remote app publishing machine. But I wanted to implement newest server so I deployed in parallel Win 2012 R2 machine.

old infrastructure is available through remote.domain.com/rdweb

new machine should be avaliable through domain.com/rdweb

So I installed that machine in DMZ with two NICs. On that machine I’ve run remote desktop services installation (with default published apps) and just added RDGateway.

RDGateway settings are Use these : domain.com certificate is public (UCC with 10 SANs).

Under Certificates I added this cert for Connection Broker, WebAccess but RDGateway is greyed. I am not able to edit this here so I added certificate through GRGateway manager. Certificate is also added in IIS that acts as a proxy

CAP and RAP Policies are configured locally on NPS server

Since I have my website domain.com I had to install IIS ARR to act as a proxy.  domain.com/RDWeb is routed to appropriate server and domain.com is routed to the webserver.  It seems to be working, I can open the login page, log in there, but when I start remote app (that works within LAN – bypass Gateway is selected) I receive an error “Your Computer can’t connect to the remote computer because RDGateway server is temporarily unavailable. Try reconnecting later ……”

RDP8.1 Dynamic Resolution capability with RemoteFX

$

Hi,

I want to know exactly which scenarios are supported by the Dynamic Resolution Updates in RDP 8.1.

I have a Windows 8.1 VM running in a windows server 2012 R2 server machine. I RDP to this VM from a Windows 8.1 client. I want to know whether dynamic resolution updates will be available to my client if vGPU is enabled on the VM in my server.

The MS-RDPEDISP document mentions: "If the RemoteFX codec ([MS-RDPRFX] sections 2.2.2 and 3.1.8) is being used to encode graphics data from a remote session, then the Remote Desktop Protocol: Display Control Virtual Channel Extension SHOULD NOT be used to request display configuration changes."

Also on another microsoft resource I found: "The scale factors are auto computed in case of RemoteFX vGPU sessions"

Thank you.

Can't connect to Terminal Server with "Negotiate" and Network Level Authentication enabled

$

Hello,

I've searched extensively and cannot find a definitive solution to this problem. Here is the current situation:

2 Servers: 1 Windows Server 2008 R2 acting as a database server (DB1), 1 Windows Server 2008 R2 acting as a terminal server (TS1)

1 Windows 7 Workstation (my work laptop)

I have configured the TS1 with RD Session Host to have 'Negotiate' as the security layer and have checked "Allow only connections from computers running Network Level Authentication."

With a Windows 7 Pro computer, fully up to date with updates, including RDP 8.1 (as verified by looking at the 'About' window from the Remote Desktop Connection program), I cannot connect to the TS1 when these settings are in place. I get a credential prompt, but when I attempt to login, I get "The Logon attempt failed." When I change the Security layer to "RDP Security Layer" then there is no problem whatsoever. I establish a session, and can log on as expected.

I can RDP to the DB1 with NLA with no problem as well.

I would much prefer to use SSL and NLA rather than simply the RDP native encryption, but I cannot for the life of me figure out what the underlying issue is here. I have tried adjusting Group Policy with the whole "Send LM, NTLM, use NTLMv2 if negotiated" etc, but all to no avail.

As a note, there is no 3rd party certificate installed on the TS. Only the Self-Signed certificate that is generated automatically.

Any help would be appreciated!

How can I prevent a printer attached to the server from defaulting onto remote desktop computer in Sage accounting.

How can I prevent Peachtree/Sage accounting from pulling last printer used on a remote desktop computer using another printer at another location. We are using Server 2008 Foundation and win 7 on remotes with Sage 50 2014 accounting.I have the server configured as a workgroup only.We use Sage for our point of sale and it takes the last printer used so that it will try to pull a printer from one location and install it and use it as a default printer on a remote desktop computer at another location. There is a huge delay while we get the right printer on track and nothing in remote settings seems to be able to stop it without making local printers disappear.
