Run specific published app in one collection using different credentials

Hi,

I have a collection of published apps using rdweb with apps accessed by and run by a user in a group. I was wondering how i can allow one of the apps in the users rdweb to be launched using alternate credentials.

I.e. i log on as userA. I get my list of allowed apps in RDWeb. Among those apps is an app, let's call it AppX. I want that app to be launched using credentials of a user account named userB.

I know this is possible using citrix xenapp on server 2008 R2. Can it be done on native RDS 2012 R2 (no citrix)?

I am running Windows 2008 R2 server with Remote Desktop Services. New users are immediately logsoff after connecting to the server.
When I exclude the new created user from the GPO's the session will logon.

If the problem occures event id 1542 - Microsoft-Windows-User Profiles Service is created. Any ideas?

Printers of other users visible and show up multiple times under the control panel

Hello,

I currently have a very interesting problem:

Some (not all) printers show up multiple times on every user session on the specific terminal server. This behavior show up on both of the 2 servers. Also the printer only shows up multiple times under the control panel, but not in the printer dialog.

The users are not part of either printer operators, Administrator or Power Users.

The servers are Windows Server 2012.

I cannot find a reason for this after some hours with my friend Google.

Does someone have any idea how to fix this?

Thanks in advance

Paul

2012 Licensing server not issuing device cals

$

For the past month I've been battling this issue that I'm having since we switched from 2008 R2 to 2012 R2.

We have set up a 2012 Licensing Server and have installed (quantity 50) 2012 device cals onto it. I've checked the event log on the license server and it reported success. It reports that 50 are available and 0 have been issued.

We have a server running 2012 datacenter hosting 6 windows7 virtual desktops.

I've also set up a remote desktop broker server with a personal collection containing these 6 virtual desktops.

The Remote Desktop Broker is set up to point to the 2012 licensing server and the 2012 RD Session host, where the 6 virtuals are running on.

I am getting messages that there is no licensing server set up and that things will basically stop running in 7 days. Everything looks clean, I've been looking at and event logs that deal with licensing on the Host, Broker and License server.

These machines were running in a 2008 broker environment, and basically were imported to 2012. Could they be still using the 2008 device cals ? I just don't want to be surprised when they stop working one day. This is a production environment. Is there a way to force on of these machines to grab a 2012 device cal??

Thanks in advance for any help

User Profile Service failure at logon

I have a number of users who access a single application on my server (2008 R2) using an RDP client through a VPN tunnel or over the local network.  All have been working well until recently when some users have been getting the message "The User Profile Service failed the login.  User profile cannot be loaded."  I have read the various postings relating to this but none appear to answer this problem.  All my users are defined in Active directory on the same server.  Some have roaming profiles and these can login with no problems.  Non roaming users who already have a local profile on the server can login.  But, non roaming users whose profile has gone from the server (and I don't know how they have been deleted) get the above message.  If I set up a completely new user they get the same message, but not if I make them roaming.  All appropriate group membership is OK.

RDP screen goes black after successful remote login

I have a Windows 2008 Server that I have been connecting to once a month remotely to apply OS updates.  Often, I reboot that server and it uses auto-logon to login and run an application.

Today, I rebooted the server and when I try to connect with RDP, I get the login prompt and enter my credentials, I see a few expected messages fly by on the host OS (the last one I see is the word Welcome), but then the screen goes black.

The apps on the server are running successfully because our applications can connect to them, we just can't logon to the desktop of the Windows Server 2008.

I made no configuration changes (I NEVER do) other than to apply the latest Windows Server updates.

I would prefer not to drive to the computers location, or try to coordinate a time to have the server hosting company assist me with troubleshooting; but is there anything else I can do?  Any ideas about what might cause this?

The group policy client service failed the logon access is denied.

This one is starting to get on my nerves now. We've had 2 users suffering this problem on our Remote Desktop server.

We are running two Windows Server 2008 SP2 domain controllers, with two Windows 2008 R2 servers running RD Gateway and Remote Desktop Server.

The first user I had to recreate because of following instructions I googled because it caused the user to always logon with a temporary profile on the server and I could not resolve this.

This user I have managed to cleanly delete the local logon profile.

BOTH of these users are on roaming profiles, as are most of the users that are logging in to this server (for reasons that they move around the office). On the server, the user is listed twice one with a .v2 extension (XP machines at desks)

The user we are having a problem with at the moment was working perfectly fine a couple of weeks ago when they last logged into the server.

Could this be down to me setting an over ride on the settings that force people to logout completely after an hour of idle time, resulting in an unclean logoff?

Some of the messages that are in the event log for when that user attempts to login:

Event id: 1542

Windows cannot load classes registry file.

DETAIL - The system cannot find the file specified.
Event ID: 6001

The winlogon notification subscriber <Sens> failed a notification event.
Event ID: 6004
The winlogon notification subscriber <GPClient> failed a critical notification event.

I'm also getting a constant batch of

Event ID: 510
Folder redirection policy application has been delayed until the next logon because the group policy logon optimization is in effect

Any ideas why this should happen? I need a solution as soon as possible please as these users are running our sales department from home, and this user is due to be on the rota to do it this week! :)

When we use remote desktop to login to server, it still only accept 2 con-current user to login. What am I missing?

The procedure for install the "Remote Desktop Service" that only "Remote Desktop Licensing", the other "Remote Desktop Connection Broker", "Remote Desktop Gateway", Remote Desktop Session Host", "Remote Desktop Virtualization Host", & "Remote Desktop Web Access" haven't installed. Does need install it? Thanks Help.

RDS and SID error with two-way trust

Hey there.. weird one here.. I am testing RemoteApps with Server 2012. All is fine except for when I try and grant access to user in another forest where we have a two-way\forest transitive trust. The error is below.. What is interesting is the trust works fine otherwise. For example, if I try and add a user to the local admin group on the server it works great.. I can even authenticate via RDweb portal from a user in the trusted domain.. any ideas?

Windows 8 can not connect RemoteApp on W2K12 RDS, but Windows 7 can connect. Why?

Hi!

Windows 8 can not connect RemoteApp (W2K12 RDS), but Windows 7 can connect. Why?

External and internal DNS name is different, the public Cert is mapped to RD Web Access and a RD GateWay Role.
The internal cert (issued by enterprise ca) is mapped to RD Connection Broker roles (SSO and Publishing).
These certifications also be installed on client computers (Personal and Trusted Root Certification Authorities).
The internal CA revocation list is publicated to a website and this web site is accessible from internet. Ports (3389,3391,443) forwarded to RDS server.

On windows 7 everything works fine, but Windows 8 can not connect to Remote Apps. Windows 8 can connect to RDS server via Remote Desktop Connection.

The error:

Win8AppVError

Thank you for your answers.

Embedded RDP to my html page

Hello All,

I am trying to create a 'quick link' html page for my support team, in which I planned to include internal links as well as an embedded RDP client on the HTML page itself. I used the Microsoft provided code for the facility. However, if I enter the server address and click the connect button, nothing happens.

Would be thankful if someone could provide a fully functional code for this facility. Thanks!

2012 R2 RDP Bug... will it ever be fixed?

Hi.

When I try to connect from any of our windows7/8/8.1 clients to our 2012 R2 Terminalserver, I get the same problem as described here http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/fab6f026-86c2-47e0-b485-2ac40623051f/remote-desktop-denies-login?forum=w8itprosecurity   Error: "The system administrator has limited the computers you can log on with"

---

Problem environment:

Server 2012 R2 "with update", also updated.

the account used for rdp logon may NOT logon locally to the workstation he is trying to connect from. So the problem only arises when a user uses a different user account for RDP logon to a 2012 /2012R2 server.

---

This is definitely a bug. Will it ever be fixed? It has been there since server 2012 came out! This is serious as it has various implications. For example we have customers using our terminal server via VPN. We don't even know their computer names, so we cannot possibly grant them logon privileges to those machines' names. Only workaround is to allow those users which they use for connecting to logon to all machines in the domain which is a no-go security wise (although it is the default!).

Is the problem clear to you? I know it is hard to understand.

RD session broker will not work with desktop sessions

One RD Broker 2012 R2 and 2 Session Host Servers.

When I connect using rd web using IE I can be logged into the web interface (on broker where role installed) and then able to use the desktop icon to gain access to the desktop session. I check the collection and I can see the login has been moved to one of the two host servers and logged in correctly so the redirection between broker and hosts are working correctly.

But when I try and use the remote desktop connection app, please farm name and connect, I am asked for the username\password, agree to the certificate but I receive the message that 'might not have permissions to log in remotely' it looks to me it's trying to log into the RD Broker and not being redirected.

I look at the logs on the broker and they are

Remote Desktop Connection Broker Client failed to redirect the user. Error Null

Why can the broker redirect the RD web connection but not the RDP connection? No firewalls on and everything configured correctly that I know.

Error publishing RemoteApp

Hi All,

I´m configuring RDS on Windows 2012R2. I have two production RDS Servers and I installed one Broker and Gateway Server and two session Hosts. After creating a collection with two hosts I wanted to add a RemoteApp. On host1 no problem at all, but on host2 I receive following error:

Server.local is not available on the Network. Verify that the Server is available on the Network or remove the Server from the collection.

It´s not possible to publish a RemoteApp on that host. Does anyone has an idea?

Thanks.

Dirk

Windows Server 2012 DC - RDS - "Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because an error occurred"

Hello,

I have recently setup RemoteApp and a RD Gateway on a 2012 R2 DC server.  I have the 4 roles split out between 6 different servers. So 1 broker, 1 RD Gateway, 1 RD Web Acccess, and 3 Session Hosts.

As of Monday this week, everything worked fine with the Gateway Server.  The Web Access server's site is accessible internally and externally, launch RDP sessions successfully, as well as connect RemoteApps that I have deployed via the web feed.  The only piece missing is when I attempt to click on a RemoteApp Program from the site I get the error "RemoteApp Disconnected - Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because an error occurred on the remote computer that you want to connect to. Contact your Network Administrator for assistance."

No error logs are created on either the server side or client side.  As far as I can tell my setup is correct according to technet articles that I have followed in order to get everything up and running.

One note, the RemoteApp Programs work fine internally if I check the box "Bypass RD Gateway server for local addresses."  With this unchecked the RemoteApps fail to launch internally with the same error.

The only changes that were made since Monday were a fourth Session Host server was added which was a cloned in Vmware from another Session Host in the environment and new RAP and CAP were created on the RD Gateway server.

All of the VM's were restored using a backup that was taken Monday night before the shenanigans started.  Our client machines are running Windows 7 Enterprise and the RDP client has been updated to 8.0.

I have read through the forums as well as explored the net and have yet to find a solution.

Thanks,

Erik

Remote Desktop Gateway, can't connect from RDP 8.0 (Server 2012)

I'm racking my brain, I've done this before but I'm doing this in another lab environment . Non-Domain computers (Outside) trying to RDP in via the Gateway (Domain-Internal is working).  Certs aren't an issue as they're installed, I've tried it multiple ways, but for now I'm using the self signed generated via the RD Gateway manager.  I can go to https://rdgatewayurl/rpc and authenticate and get a blank page (external and internal).

New Domain, 2k8R2 Functional Level, no real GP customization at all, except not requiring NLA and enabling RDP on the internal "servers" in a specific OU.  My Account has Admin privileges on all the servers in question.

Another stupid question: This should also work with just the RD Gateway role installed, right?  I've tried it both ways with no luck.

RD Gateway is logging Event 4625 in the Security Log.  I feel like this should be obvious but my brain is fried.

An account failed to log on.
