I have a windows 7 workstation (32 bit) with a brother label printer (QL 570) connected directly via usb and it prints locally just fine both in the applications that needs to print to it and at the control panel, printer, print test page...
I installed terminal services on the domain controller windows server 2008 r2 box to use remoteapps and rdp sessions from the local windows 7 client workstation to the windows server 2008 r2 box and it also works just fine.
The only component NOT working is the actually print redirection. When remote over to the server via rdp after setting up terminal services, in the control panel I can see "ts port redirection" etc so at least it thinks it is being redirected but when I try to print to it nothing happens. It gives no error messages, simply doesn't print.
I tried running using "Terminal Server Printer Redirection Wizard Tool" to troubleshoot the problem but after getting very cryptic error messages when even trying to run that tool, I found out the hard way that the tool is obsolete and doesn't support 2008r2.
Then I tried using "Printbrm.exe" (MS Print Migration Tool) to copy the printer drivers from the local workstation windows 7 directly to the windows server 2008 thinking that might help....
But I restarted the print spooler services on the server, restarted the server itself, and made sure that "everyone" had "full access" to the printer folder in the windows system32 etc on the server so that it was not a "rights issue" but still in the remoted session in printer properties the in the advanced tab it is ALL grayed out... the entire page is grayed out even though I am logged in as domain admin with full rights.... And it is grayed out with defaulting to the Easy Print driver so it doesn't give me the chance to select the dropdownbox to choose the physical printer to test and see if it will print to when using the physical printer instead of some software Easy Print redirect printer because obviously either it is not working or not compatible with the QL brother label printer...
Why would this page be grayed out? Why would I not have access to change its settings?
